The Problem
Clearing tents is not a homelessness strategy. Last year, there were over 1,400 people living outside. Toronto needs a plan that moves 1,500 people from the street into permanent housing and prevents homelessness before it starts.

How I Plan to Get There
Homelessness should be rare, brief, and non-recurring. We cannot accept the status quo; let’s work together to create a city where everyone has a safe place to call home.
Expand crisis support and outreach to keep everyone in our city safe
Invest more in 211 crisis supports, street outreach, drop-in spaces, and peer support
Prevent homelessness before it starts with targeted programs
Keep people in their homes with stronger eviction prevention
Expanded rent bank funding, and targeted support for youth, seniors, and communities most at risk, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, and 2SLGBTQ+ residents
Build 1,500 supportive and affordable homes in the next 4 years
Build new, supportive and permanently affordable homes city-wide
Build through hospital partnerships (like Dunn House), city-owned land, and expanded acquisition of existing affordable housing
Commit $200 million to the Multi-Unit Residential Acquisition program to preserve existing affordable homes in the private market and create new non-profit, co-operative, and supportive housing
